WELCOME TO TRUE WEST AND BIG SOUTH FORK!

Hi, we're the Martin Family; all of us born and raised in New Hampshire. My wife, Donna, and I have been married for nearly 30 years (Nov 2016) and we have a lovely 24 year old daughter, Brittany and now (since 2013), a wonderful son-in-law, Blake. We've always had the pleasure of camping in New Hampshire's White Mountains, Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Maine during the summer months as it was one of our favorite vacation activities.

Brittany was just 4 months old on her first camping trip. Starting out with a tent, moving on to a pop-up and finally a 30' travel trailer. Camping is what we love to do. So why not buy a whole campground? What could be more fun than turning a vacation into a full time job!

Additionally, my wife has always had a passion for horses ever since she was a little girl. We've had horses for the past 17 years. We brought two with us from NH and we've added two more since. And one came with a surprise!

Trooper is a 26 year old black TWH gelding, who originated from Tennessee, and has been with us for 18 years. This will be like a home coming for him. Skye, our 15 year old palomino Quarter Horse mare, was a rescue case. She is a by-product of a premarin farm, and we rescued her from the sure clutches of slaughter at the young age of 6 months old. Since we've come to Tennessee, we've purchased two more horses to add to our herd. There's Jager, a 8 year old Kentucky Mountain gelding, sweet as can be, and Chimera, a 7 year old spotted Tennessee Walking horse mare from right here in TN. To our surprise, Chimera came as a package and we now have Bogo (buy one-get one), a spotted and gaited, Tennessee Walking Horse/Percheron Cross. He is delight to everyone that meets him!

It has been an unbelievable journey for us. Since the purchase of True West in 2011, we were in the top 3 of campgrounds across the USA with the most number of 5-star reviews from our guests. Wow - what an honor! But it got better! In 2012 we made the top three again and in 2013 & 2014 our customers put us at the TOP! The #1 5-Star Horse Campground in the US based on the number of customer reviews!! Then the most awesome thing happened. In 2014 we were awarded the "Best Small Campground in Tennessee 2014-2015" by the Tennessee Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (TNARVC). I guess we must be doing something right - and our campers have made sure we will continue to keep on doin' what we're doin'. WE LOVE OUR CAMPERS!

Being at the top didn't slow us down. Instead, we looked for more ways to improve our service and our campground. We know there is always room for improvement. Just because you voted us the best does not mean we can slack off!! Each year we look for ways to improve our campground and whenever possible, adding amenities so our campers will WANT to keep coming back. This year (2016) we have re-hired our daughter back to the campground as our first official full time employee! We are beyond excited to have her back on our team again. We are now truly a FAMILY campground!! Each year you, our guests, make it all worth while. We are all looking forward to the 2016 season, seeing our guests again and bringing more friends and family with them! What a reunion it will be! We hope you'll join us too! We love what we do and that enthusiasm is passed on through our service to you! Our goal is to make True West a favorite destination for everyone, young, old, with horses, without horses - no matter! With access to Big South Fork just a stride away, it is the ultimate outdoor recreational destination. Riding, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, mounting climbing, fishing and swimming...the list goes on. True West Campground, Stables and Mercantile is the place to be. Come and enjoy our great hospitality, meet new people, and top it all off with the best HORSEpitality™ around! Our goal is to make it so that you'll never want to leave.

Thanks for stopping by.
