The best you'll find in the Country!
Big South Fork Horse Campgrounds

If we had to describe True West with one word, that word would be HORSEpitality®. Hi, we're the Martin Family and our one goal is to give you the best experience you've ever had when camping with your horses. My wife, Donna, and I have been married for 30 years (Nov 2016) and we have a lovely 24 year old daughter, Brittany, a wonderful son-in-law, Blake and a lucky grandson on the way! We've always enjoyed camping in New Hampshire's White Mountains, Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Maine during the summer months as it was one of our favorite vacation activities. Camping is what we love to do. So why not buy a whole campground? What could be more fun than turning a vacation into a full time job!

Donna has always had a love and passion for horses ever since she was a little girl. We've had horses for the past 19 years and currently own five that live here with us at True West.

Trooper, a 27 year old black TWH gelding, originated from Tennessee, and has been with us for 18 years, and Skye, our 16 year old palomino Quarter Horse mare, came with us from New Hampshire to Tennessee. Skye was a by-product of a premarin farm, and we rescued her from the sure clutches of slaughter at the young age of 6 months old. Soon after purchasing the campground, we purchased two more horses to add to our herd. Jager, a 9 year old Kentucky Mountain gelding, sweet as can be, and Chimera, an 8 year old spotted Tennessee Walking horse mare from right here in TN. To our surprise, Chimera came with a package and we now have Bogo (buy one-get one), a 5 yr old spotted and gaited, Tennessee Walking Horse/Percheron Cross. He is delight to everyone that meets him!

It has been an unbelievable journey for us. Since the purchase of True West in 2011, we were in the top 3 of campgrounds across the USA with the most number of 5-star reviews from our guests. Wow - what an honor! But it got better! In 2012 we made the top three again and in 2013 & 2014 our customers put us at the TOP! The #1 5-Star Horse Campground in the US based on the number of customer reviews!! Then the most awesome thing happened. In 2014 we were awarded the "Best Small Campground in Tennessee 2014-2015" by the Tennessee Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (TNARVC). I guess we must be doing something right - we attribute our success to listening to what our campers have to say. WE LOVE OUR CAMPERS!

Being at the top didn't slow us down. Instead, we looked for more ways to improve our service and our campground. This past year, through the ARVC Foundation, Donna attended the National School for RV Parks and Campgrounds and became a certified Outdoor Hospitality Manager - but then went back for a second session to learn more! After two weeks of intense studying and class work, Donna became certified as an Outdoor Hospitality Professional!! If we thought we knew what we were doing before, we know even more now! There is always room for improvement and we are continuously adding to that list! Each year we look for ways to improve our campground and whenever possible, adding amenities so our campers will always have something to look forward to when they return.

Last year (2016) we re-hired our daughter back to the campground as our first official full time employee! We are beyond excited to have her as part of our team again. We are now truly a FAMILY campground!! Each year you, our guests, make it all worth while. We are all looking forward to the 2017 season, seeing our guests again and bringing more friends and family with them! What a reunion it will be! We hope you'll join us too! We love what we do and that enthusiasm is passed on through our service to you! Our goal is to make True West a favorite destination for everyone, young, old, with horses, without horses - no matter! With access to Big South Fork just a stride away, it is the ultimate outdoor recreational destination. Riding, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, mounting climbing, fishing and swimming...the list goes on. True West Campground, Stables and Mercantile is the place to be.

Come and enjoy our great hospitality, meet new people, ride great trails and top it all off with the best HORSEpitality® in the country! Our goal is to make it so that you'll never want to leave.

Thanks for stopping by.
